Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a serene township & a union territory in India. It was born in the year 1966 & serves as the capital city to the states of Punjab and Haryana. Owning the sobriquet of ‘City Beautiful’, the etymology of Chandigarh means the ‘Fort of Devi Chandi’, a manifestation of Goddess Parvati. Due to its environment and cleanliness, Chandigarh has emerged as a popular tourist destination.

Perched in the murky foothills of Shivalik Range, Chandigarh is hoisted at 1150 feet above the sea level and sprawls across an area of 114 sq. km. It was one amid the planned cities in the post-independence era. The urban design of Chandigarh was planned by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier. The geographical location of Chandigarh classifies its climate as subtropical. The average temperature during summers reaches 37° C on an average and drops down to 7° C during the winter season on an average. The ‘City Beautiful’ receives an adequate amount of rainfall during the monsoons.
