Haryana, a state of India, was formed on 1 November 1966. It was created by carving out a considerable portion of land from Punjab. So it shares its northern border with Punjab and also with Himachal Pradesh. The west and south sides of Haryana are bounded by Rajasthan. The eastern boundary of Haryana with Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is well defined by the River Yamuna. The boundary line of Haryana also surrounds the national capital, Delhi from three sides. The state falls in the Kuru region of north India.
Though the state had been carved out from Punjab; the native people of the state have their own Haryanvi culture. But there still is a great influence of Punjabi culture which is evident from Punjabi being the second major language spoken in Haryana.
